Rowand lifts Giants over Braves in 13th

Renteria continued a torrid start at the plate with three hits, putting his average at .688 (11-for-16) this season. His two-run blast with one out in the bottom of the ninth off Braves closer Billy Wagner helped the Giants to a 4-0 start to the year. They were coming off a three-game sweep of the Astros.

Pablo Sandoval and Aubrey Huff had RBI groundouts, and Jeremy Affeldt (2-0) wound up with the win after working the top of the 13th. Starter Jonathan Sanchez lasted just 4 1/3 innings, yielding three runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning six.

Braves starter Tim Hudson gave up just one hit through six innings in his first start of the season, and pitched seven frames overall, giving up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts against zero walks.

Matt Diaz had a pair of RBI singles for the Braves, who took two of three from the Cubs at home to begin their 2010 slate.

Troy Glaus collected a pair of hits and an RBI and Martin Prado went 3-for-4, scored twice and walked three times to up his average to .625 (10-for-16) in the early going.

Kris Medlen (0-1) was saddled with the loss.
